Fremantle midfielder Michael Barlow says there is plenty to like about Freo’s start to the season, but he’s even more excited about where his team can improve.
Barlow played his 100th AFL match in Freo’s seven-point win over Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.
“If you were given 10-1 at the start of the season, you’d definitely take it,” Barlow told Fox Footy.
“I think the real bonus about it is that we’ve got a lot of things to improve on in our footy.
“I think it was pretty evident in the Adelaide game, against Richmond last week and then against Gold Coast today…we’ve had moments where we were really on the back foot and really exposed.
“It’s probably more exciting than anything, knowing that there is definite areas in our game that we can improve.”
Freo 'plug away' and get result
Fremantle was very inaccurate in front of goal against the Suns, kicking 6.17 (53). Gold Coast kicked 7.4 (46), in a rare result where the losing team actually kicked more goals that the opposition.
“That’s football,” Barlow said.
“A few weeks ago we had a similar thing happen against us and we were able to get across the line.
“We know what we get when we play Gold Coast…they’re a young, hungry side and it took all of 120 minutes to break them today.”
Barlow finally reached his 100-game milestone on Saturday after being a mature-age recruit with many setbacks along the way, but he was happy to just get the win.
“I’m really humbled to be a 100-game player, but I want to just acknowledge all of those people that have helped me get there.”
