Fremantle’s first to fourth year players returned to training on Monday as the club officially commenced preparations for the 2020 season ahead.

It was near on perfect conditions for the morning session at Victor George Kailis Oval, as senior coach Justin Longmuir lead his first training session in the purple.

It was also former Fremantle player Josh Carr’s first session as an assistant coach, taking the opportunity to meet a few of Freo’s youngsters.

The session began with players running through kicking drills from various ranges along with some short one-on-one handball drills.

The group then moved on to dynamic stretches and run-throughs, increasing in intensity over time.

It was good to see Stefan Giro out on the track since injuring his ACL back in June. Whilst he wasn’t back in full training, Giro took part in light drills and running away from the main group alongside other rehab players.

Development coach Marc Webb took the wheel as the players split off into groups of three, working on their ability to turn and kick off a few steps.

While the morning session only saw the return of Fremantle's first to fourth-year players, Michael Walters, Stephen Hill, Joel Hamling and Rory Lobb all spent some of their own time out on the track as well.

Re-grouping, the team progressed onto a five-star handball drill that began short and intense but expanded into a much wider drill incorporating kicking and marking.
