Midfielder Bradley Hill has praised the efforts of 24-year-old midfielder Brett Bewley, who made his debut in a thrilling one-point win against Brisbane at Optus Stadium on Sunday.
It was a case of quality over quantity with Bewley totalling five kicks and six handballs at 90.9 per cent efficiency in his first taste of AFL football in a high-intensity contest.
Hill praised the composure of Bewley, who he thinks will only make more of an impact with time.
“I thought he was terrific,” Hill said.
“It was some of those kicks he took late in the game. He’s got a terrific kick on him and to be able to pull the trigger one some of those kicks into the corridor in your first game, it was terrific to see.
“He’s only going to get better and he’s going to keep on building.
“He’s a pretty big body for a winger and I reckon he’s going to be a good player for us throughout the future.”
Hill also praised the efforts of another mature-age draftee in Luke Ryan, who was one of Freo’s stars with 32 disposals, 13 contested possessions, seven rebound 50s and 16 intercept possessions.
“Luke’s been terrific for us all year, he’s our roll-off defender and we like getting the ball in his hands,” Hill said.
“He’s one of the best kicks in the team. He’s having an outstanding year and he’s only been playing in the AFL for three years now.
“He’s going to keep on improving, he’s a terrific young player.”
