Darcy Tucker said that the Fremantle playing group isn’t getting carried away with an impressive start to the season, highlighting that successful teams are continually able to play at a high level.
As such, Tucker and Fremantle are eager to perform well against Gold Coast on Sunday at Metricon Stadium in a bid to show that their 82-point victory against North Melbourne in round one wasn’t a once off.
“On the weekend we played a really exciting brand of footy for our fans and as a club. It was really important to play like that but our focus quickly shifts to Gold Coast,” Tucker said.
“We’ll have a quick review today and we want to come back out and back it up. Great teams can play well one week and then review it and back it up week after week, so that’s what we want to become.”
Be there for the Purple Haze in round three!
Tucker is set to play his 50th game in the clash, where he too is aiming to build on an impressive start to the season.
Against North Melbourne, Tucker had 24 disposals, kicked two goals and laid and equal game-high seven tackles.
He said that pressure was key to allow Fremantle to play free flowing football, with Fremantle scoring 91 points from turnovers – the highest of any team in round one.
“It starts with forward pressure, locking it in and then when we’re moving the ball out we want to continue the pressure and force the ball to turn over,” Tucker said.
“When you do that we’ll be able to move the ball forward and create scoring opportunities.”
