Fremantle midfielder Kiara Bowers says Fremantle is ready to give everything in the club’s maiden AFLW finals appearance, played against Carlton on Saturday at Ikon Park.
If Fremantle wins the preliminary final, they will advance to the grand final to be played the following Sunday.
Speaking on Monday night’s ABC News broadcast, Bowers said both clubs will be fighting to continue an impressive turnaround from their 2018 seasons, where Fremantle finished seventh and Carlton eighth.
“It’s pretty amazing, we were fighting off for the wooden spoon last year and now we’re fighting for a spot in the grand final,” Bowers told ABC News.
“We’re up and about, we know what we can do and the pressure that we can bring to the game.
“But we can never underestimate Carlton, they’ve gone through and have made it to the top of their conference and they’ve got some amazing players in Brianna Davey and Darcy Vescio, so for us, we’ll never take this game for granted.
“We’ll be going out there to make sure we leave everything on the park to make it to that final game.”
Bowers said Fremantle would look to make the most of having to travel in the first week of finals.
“To be honest for us, we actually like to travel,” Bowers said.
“We’ve won twice in Melbourne this year. We get to go over and stay in the hotel and play a couple of games together at night.
“It makes us bond more, so for us we actually like the travel and it’s going to be a good experience for us.”
Bowers, who had 23 disposals and 13 tackles against North Melbourne on Saturday, said Fremantle’s pressure would be key to winning.
“Our pressure is something that we’ve had throughout every game,” Bowers said.
“We set the standard from the start and our tackle pressure, our pressure points, the forward line not letting it out, if we bring that I feel like we’ll be hard to beat.”
