Fremantle forward Jesse Hogan expects to have the occasional stint through the Fremantle midfield in his debut season at the club.
Hogan was involved in five centre bounces during the JLT Community series and said flipping into the middle allowed the coaches flexibility to rest a midfielder in the forward line.
“Just with the cap and the new rules and not being able to go off as much, it an be useful the more positions you can player as a player,” Hogan said.
“As a coach, if you can flip someone with a midfielder, even if t’s just for two to three minutes, that’s really handy.”
Hogan said that the return of Nat Fyfe to Fremantle’s midfield in round one would mean he wouldn’t need to head into the middle as much.
“It’s something that I’m not sure we’ll do in round one when we have Fyfey back,” Hogan said.
“Hopefully, the midfield is a bit more bolstered, we’ll tinker with it and see how it goes.”
Hogan said Fremantle would focus on their contested footy heading the clash against North Melbourne on Saturday 24 March at Optus Stadium.
“North Melbourne are pretty renowned in that area so that will probably be our number one focus,” Hogan said.
“Just our chemistry forward to back as well. I think it’s a bit of anything really, I don’t think we’re exactly polished in every position, so I think we’ll continue to develop and go in really confident come round one.”
