The Freo Line-Up: Silvagni returns
Fremantle has made just one change for Saturday’s match against Brisbane at Patersons Stadium
Young midfielder Cam Sutcliffe was the player to make way for the forward.
Matt Taberner, Tom Sheridan and Sutcliffe were named as emergencies.
Silvagni was a late withdrawal from Fremantle’s team that won in Adelaide before the bye.
Fremantle general manager of football Chris Bond said Silvagni added height to the team ahead of the round 12 clash.
“He went out of the team with an ankle injury, but we’re really pleased for him to get back into the team,” he said.
“He’s had a good couple of weeks of training so he’s ready to go.”
Sutcliffe was Silvagni’s replacement in round 10, starting the match against the Crows as the sub.
He came on late and turned the game Freo’s way with a goal and a goal assist deep into the fourth quarter.
Bond said the 21-year-old was unlucky to miss out and that the club was pleased with his progress.
“He’s been a great young player for us and he’ll continue to be,” he said.
“He’s gone out of the team, so we expect him to go back and get some really good form and push his way back in.”
The Lions have struggled this season, but Bond said their performances have proven they can’t be underestimated on Saturday.
“We think they’re a very talented young team,” he said.
“They’ve had some great performances without getting over the line in a few games, but they had a great win over Essendon earlier in the year.
“They’ve still got a couple of really good experienced players as well.”
Bond added that it was important for Freo to maintain the momentum it had generated in the first half of the season.
“We think we’ve played some good footy in the first half of the year, but we know there’s a long road to go and we’re not looking anywhere ahead exept Brisbane,” he said.
“We’ve got a great deal of respect for them, both as a playing group and coaching group.
“We know it’s going to be a really hard contest and our biggest effort at the moment needs to be the first quarter.”
The Lions have been boosted by the return of some big names ahead of Saturday’s clash.
Midfielders Daniel Rich and Tom Rockliff, ruckman Matthew Leuenberger and defender Mitchell Golby are among seven inclusions.
The other ins are Sam Mayes, Jordan Lisle and Niall McKeever.
