RISING midfield star Nat Fyfe says Fremantle's faith in its game-plan, and outstanding record on the road this year, will give the team plenty of confidence when it travels to Adelaide for Friday night's semi-final.

Adelaide is the only team to defeat Fremantle in the past 10 weeks -
Freo lost by 28 points in round 20 - but Fyfe says the team will back its game-plan when they meet for the cut-throat final at AAMI Stadium.

"[The game-plan] was brought in with Ross (Lyon) and Peter Sumich and Mark Stone who have come across this year [and] our away record this year really stands up and it has been a big shift for us," Fyfe said.

"It's sort of game-plan specific. We have a really strong game-plan that has been implemented over the pre-season throughout this year and now a full season under our belt where we are starting to get some continuity and we are starting to understand it really well."

But for all the detail that can go into preparation for an AFL game, something can always pop up completely out of the blue - a fact not lost on Fyfe.

The 20-year-old was a notable omission from that game against the Crows after injuring his ankle in the hotel room.

"I missed the last game against them because I rolled my ankle in the hotel room so I'll be taking extra precaution this week," Fyfe said.

"I think I'll be strapped up by about Wednesday and I won't take it off until after the game."

Fyfe stopped short of labelling the win over the Cats as a coming of age for the club but did say it highlighted the brilliance of Matthew Pavlich for some sections of the football public in Australia's east.

"I think if he were a Victorian player he would be ranked up there with the greatest players in the comp," he said.

"We definitely value him as that at our club and also as a leader."

As for whether Pavlich could add to his decorated career by holding the premiership cup at the end of the year, Fyfe was circumspect.

"We're not going to look too far forward. We've got Adelaide this week and all our preparation will be for them," he said.

"That result [against Geelong] does give us a bit of confidence definitely."
