Fremantle have secured forward Bella Smith in a trade with the Sydney Swans that will see her at the Club until at least the end of the 2026 season.

The Club have traded pick 49 with the Swans as part of the deal.

In her five seasons playing AFLW, Smith spent her first two at Collingwood before making the move to Sydney as an expansion signing ahead of its inaugural season, playing 36 games across the two Clubs.

Smith has shown versatility, playing as a key position player both up forward and down back, and is known for her strong hands and marking ability, who will add height into Fremantle’s forward line.

23-year-old Smith played five games in 2024, kicking seven goals, and booting five of those in Sydney’s 46-point win over the Eagles in week 10.

AFLW List Manager Darryn Fry was pleased with the outcome and welcomed Smith to Fremantle.

“We have been tracking Bella’s progress for a while and are delighted to get a deal done with Sydney, which will see her in purple for at least the next two seasons,” Fry said.

“Bella’s versatility to play multiple roles was very appealing to us, but we feel her aerial strength and her penetrating left-foot can be important for us in the front half of the ground.

“We can’t wait to get Bella over to Perth to meet her new teammates and get to work with Lisa and the coaching staff.”

The AFLW Trade Period opened on Thursday 5 December and closes Wednesday 11 December, 2pm WST.
