Fremantle’s four-point loss to Carlton on Saturday afternoon came following a fairly even matchup between the two sides throughout the day, with the largest margin for the match only reaching 10-points at three-quarter time.

Senior Coach Lisa Webb reflected on the game to media post-match and despite the loss remains confident in her side to finish the season strongly.

“We’ve got the run. We’ve got the players. We need to get the job done and it’s just disappointing we couldn’t get it done today,” Webb said.

While she felt her side started well, Webb said it was ultimately poor decision making that let the team down for the day.

“We started well, I thought we had a promising start,” Webb said.

“Then, for five or 10 minutes we just let them get on top. Full credit to Carlton, I thought they did a really good job, and they stuck in it till the death.

“We just made some poor decisions and our skills let us down under pressure.

“We’ve just got to get to work. There’s no easy fix for those things, but just have to make better decisions with ball in hand and make the most of our opportunities when we do have it.”

Webb spoke about the sombre mood in the home side’s changerooms after the loss and said there were plenty of lessons to takeaway.

“We’re flat. You want it to burn – it means you care, and we care a lot."

“There’s no looking sideways, we need to reflect as a group.

“We’re an all-in team so we need to stick together and make sure we get to work this week as we do.”

Webb touched on the strong faith she had in the new-look forward line, that continues to shape itself and build each week.

“I certainly thought the forwards presented well today. I thought Epps was really powerful down there, Ari presented well,” Webb said.

“Obviously it’s a different forward line, but one we’ve got full faith in that can get the job done.”

Webb praised an unexpected yet powerful goal by defender Ash Brazill in the third term, awarding her team the biggest margin for the match.

“It was pretty handy. She’s a great player and (it was) nice for her to get on the scoreboard as well,” Webb said.

Looking ahead to the RAC Derby in week 8, Webb said her side will get to work, preparing to put on a show against the West Coast Eagles.

“There’s no better way to turn it around than in an RAC Derby,” Webb said.

“We want to get back to the footy we know, showing that grit and determination.

“They’re really going to get to work as they do every week, but we just need to make some really good decisions and we need to recover well.”
