Fremantle were handed their second loss for the season on Sunday with a nine-point defeat to Hawthorn, but Senior Coach Lisa Webb is confident her side will bounce back strongly as they gear up for the final four games of the home and away season.

Webb spoke in her post-match media conference on Sunday afternoon, and touched on what the focuses will be as they move into the seventh week of the 2024 NAB AFLW Season.

“We just need to get our style of footy back, we need to continue to build,” Webb said.

“Whether we win, lose or draw, we want to make sure we’re reviewing, and we’ve got that appetite to win.

“Credit to the girls, I guarantee they’ll be turning up Monday, Tuesday ready to learn from the things today that caused us to lose, and they’ll be fighting for Carlton.”

Fremantle’s forward mix has had to adapt without key forward Áine Tighe, however Webb insisted it’s a challenge every side goes through, and is confident in the connection that’s building.

“I don’t think we’re the only team doing that with losing key players,” Webb said.

“Every team seems to be having those issues, but we have to be flexible and adaptable.

“We’ve certainly got the firepower to be able to do it, it just didn’t work for us today.

“We just would’ve liked to take greater opportunities with those inside 50 connections when we controlled play for parts of the game.

“It's a loss – we didn’t want it, but we live to fight another day.”

Webb praised the efforts of the defenders in Emma O’Driscoll and Ash Brazill, who were standouts in limiting Hawthorn’s scoring opportunities.

Brazill had a notable eight tackles and 10 intercept possessions for the match, and O’Driscoll finished the match with 19 disposals and 11 intercept possessions.

“They’re brilliant. I thought once again, they were really good,” Webb said on O’Driscoll and Brazill.

“Braz on the left (foot) as well, and O’Driscoll’s come forward pressure has just been super impressive for us and they’re two really reliable players.”

Fremantle are now sitting sixth on the ladder, as they gear up to face Carlton at Fremantle Oval on Saturday 12 October at 4.15pm WST.
