With Fremantle’s condensed fixture week 6 fixture, a tight turn around in games means defender Jae Flynn and midfielder Dana East will miss both matches against Geelong and Hawthorn this week.
East was placed under concussion protocols following Fremantle’s week 5 match against St Kilda on Friday, and similar for Flynn, who suffered a concussion from a collision in the opening minutes of the final quarter in the week 4 clash with Melbourne.
AFLW High Performance Manager Corey Morris provided an update on the pair, and said they were both in line for a similar return to play.
“They’ll both be unavailable for the Hawthorn game, and then we’ll look to have them available for the Carlton game,” Morris said.
It is an exciting week for forward Serena Gibbs, who could be available for selection after rehabilitating an MCL injury.
“(Serena is) good. She’s been back into full football for the last two sessions now,” Morris said.
“She’ll be available for some minutes this weekend, provided she gets through training this week.”
Tara Stribley continues to inch closer to a return with her ankle injury.
“(Tara’s) progressing well – a bit slower than expected, so we’ll look to get her up and going next week,” Morris said.
Captain Ange Stannett ticked off an exciting milestone in her ACL rehab on Sunday morning, running for the first time since the injury in May.
“(Ange is progressing) really well. She did her first land run on Sunday, which was great to see; all the staff and players got down to support her,” Morris said.
Co-vice-captain Áine Tighe will start her rehab process soon, with the key forward having flown back to Perth from Melbourne to have surgery on her knee.
“She’s good, she had surgery on Monday,” Morris said.
“She’s in recovery at the moment, but she’s doing well post-surgery.”
