Fremantle midfielder Aish McCarthy will be a test to play in the week 4 match against Melbourne this Saturday, after being a late withdrawal in last week’s clash with Port Adelaide due to bone bruising in her knee.
AFLW High Performance Manager Corey Morris provided an update on the Irish recruit.
“She had some bone bruising, which unfortunately saw her miss over the weekend,” Morris said.
“She’ll need to get through training this week to be available.”
Utility Tunisha Kikoak is progressing with her shoulder injury sustained during the week 2 clash with the Crows, with a return to play timeline still unclear.
“She’s been progressing well; her shoulder has settled,” Morris said.
“We’ll look through what her return to football looks like over this week.”
Morris gave an update on forward Tara Stribley, who is a few weeks off a return with an ankle injury.
“Her ankle took a bit longer to settle than what we thought initially, so we’ll work through her (return to) football over the next one to two weeks as well,” Morris said.
In positive news, draftee Holly Ifould played some minutes in last week’s scrimmage in Adelaide, returning after a back injury sustained during pre-season.
“(She’s) really good. She got into some managed minutes over the weekend in the scrimmage, so she’ll be available for selection this week,” Morris said.
Forward Mikayla Morrison has progressed with her knee injury after a minor setback prevented her availability in the first half of the season.
“She’s a couple of weeks away. She got into some football last week, which is really good to see,” Morris said.
“We’ll look to continue to build that over these next two to three weeks.”
Forward Serena Gibbs is inching closer to a return, with Morris providing an update on her progress.
“She got into some football last week, we’ll look to continue to build that this week and hopefully see a return to football next week,” Morris said.
