Fremantle AFLW senior coach Lisa Webb and forward star Áine Tighe have reaffirmed that the playing group is focused on a collective team effort instead of relying on individual performances.

Tighe, who was a standout performer during the Club’s week one win over Essendon with her four goals and seven marks said that the spread of contributors was the most pleasing element from the weekend’s win.

“For us, it’s that even spread of contributors…everyone just playing their role and just being able to work together is what as a team and as a collective will get us where we want to go,” Tighe said during her Thursday morning media conference.

“To be able to, as a collective, kick 10 and have fun doing it was really pleasing.”

Webb echoed the thoughts of her star forward and relayed that the team focus was to never rely too heavily on a specific individual.

“She’s (Tighe) a real important player for us but we never want to be defined by that one player as well,” Webb said.

“We’ve got a lot of other players down there that have bobbed up previously and we’ve obviously got rotating midfielders going forward, Pughy (Laura Pugh), Mullers (Amy Mulholland) and Phil Seth (Philipa Seth) are all there so there is lots of opportunity.

“If she (Tighe) does get a hard tag one day we want to make sure that we are understanding that we can lower our eyes and look for different options, and I think we’ve got that.”

Tighe, who despite being 32 years of age said she still feels relatively young in the game, believing improvement in her game is still to come.

“I think that was only game number 30 on the weekend, I haven’t played a whole pile of footy at all,” Tighe said.

“I still have so much to learn and so much to grow. Getting a really solid pre-season in and a really solid offseason as well will hold me in good stead too.

“The more we play together the more that connection and chemistry is going to build.”

Fremantle will now face the Adelaide Crows at Fremantle Oval on Sunday 8 September for their week two matchup, and first official home game of the 2024 NAB AFLW Season.
