James Aish, Neil Erasmus and Michael Walters have been added as potential inclusions to Fremantle’s final 23 that will take on Port Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Sean Darcy, who was a test to play after injuring his knee against Essendon in round 21 has not been selected as part of the squad.
Earlier today during his media conference, Senior Coach Justin Longmuir said no risk would be taken with Darcy if he wasn’t ready.
“He’s (Darcy) got to get through training and be able to prove himself,” Longmuir said.
“We don’t want to take him in if he’s not right, we’ll get a good understanding of what he can get through and what his pain levels are, and we’ll go from there.”
As a result, Liam Reidy has been named in the ruck for a second consecutive week after making his AFL debut against the Giants in round 23.
Reidy had 31 hitouts, six disposals and two tackles in his debut.
Nathan O'Driscoll has been named on the wing after featuring as the substitute in last week's loss.
Aish, Bailey Banfield, Erasmus, Jaeger O’Meara, Jeremy Sharp, Pat Voss, Corey Wagner and Walters have been named on the Club’s extended bench.
Sunday’s clash is a must win for the Club if they wish to progress the season beyond the final home and away game, but the Club is also relying on one of Carlton, Hawthorn or the Western Bulldogs losing their respective matchups to be able to make the eight.
The Club’s last three meetings with Port Adelaide have been decided by an average margin of nine points.
If Caleb Serong has 19 or more disposals on Sunday, he will break his previous record for most disposals in a season (675) which he set in 2023.
If he breaks that record, Serong will then have two of the top four disposal totals in a single season in the Club’s history.
Andrew Brayshaw will captain the side in the absence of injured captain Alex Pearce.
The Club's extended eight-man bench will be trimmed to five players tomorrow when final teams are announced.
The clash will also be the Club’s Member Thank You round, where the Club will pay appreciation to the record number of devoted members who have shown their support throughout 2024.
Fremantle’s final team will be named at 3pm WST on Friday at fremantlefc.com.au
