Fremantle senior coach Justin Longmuir has challenged his side to bounce back following the Club’s disappointing loss to the Western Bulldogs in round 14.

A forthright Longmuir said players needed to re-align to what is important to making Fremantle a good team following the 67-point loss at the weekend.

“There is no doubt on the weekend guys were more worried about how many possessions they got rather than how they competed in the contest, how they pressured the opposition and how they defended,” Longmuir said.

“That’s not what I stand for as a coach.”

Following the loss, Longmuir stated the Monday match review meeting didn’t single out individuals, but rather looked holistically at what the playing group needed to focus on.

“The issues we covered in the team meeting were team issues,” Longmuir said.

“Yeah, some individuals were in some individual clips, but they were only highlighted because it was a team problem.

“It wasn’t just one individual, everyone needs to bounce back.

“They (the players) are up and about and want to redeem themselves.”

When questioned about possible team changes and players pushing for selection - including Neil Erasmus - through the Club's WAFL-aligned side in Peel Thunder, Longmuir emphasised that selection is about finding the right balance for the team, rather than just pure statistics.

“Everyone loves looking at the Peel stats of all our players not just Neil (Erasmus),” Longmuir said.

“(People) love looking at all the stats, reading stats but a good game isn’t determined by what the stats sheet says at the end of the day.

“I don’t even look at the stats sheet, not even at our game.

“At the end of the day I look at all aspects of their (players) role that contribute to us being a good team.”

Fremantle and Gold Coast will clash in the final game of round 15 at Optus Stadium, with bouncedown at 2pm WST on Sunday 23 June.
