Fremantle midfielder Caleb Serong has said he is confident the group has come back refreshed from the bye and is ready to continue the push to play finals football at the end of the season.

“We just focus on what we can control and what we’ve done is given ourselves a platform to build from,” Serong said during his Monday morning media conference.

“You get to this part of the year and sometimes you are down in the bottom part of the bottom eight like we were last year, and you kind of struggle to see that belief.

“This year it’s a bit different, we have given ourselves a really good chance to build in this second half of the year and play finals footy."

Fremantle currently sit seventh on the AFL ladder, just two points outside the top four following the Clubs 92-point win over Melbourne in Alice Springs in round 12.

Serong said the belief within the group internally was always evident, but coming off such a comprehensive win over a highly rated opponent before the bye has instilled even further belief to Fremantle’s young core.

“Across the board there has been a lot of growth but also a lot of consistency,” Serong said.

“Not much changes (heading into the second half of the year), the belief is there internally and now it’s just about going and putting four quarter performances on the park week in week out.

“When you experience something (like the four-quarter performance against Melbourne) and are exposed to it, it definitely heightens and increases that belief.

“Especially for a young group, there are guys here that haven’t played in a successful team over a longer period of time where it’s just week in week out putting those performances together and banking those wins."

A win over the Bulldogs on Saturday at Marvel Stadium could see Fremantle sit as high as third on the ladder depending on other results.
