Pat Voss, Neil Erasmus and Karl Worner led Peel to a strong win at Rushton Park on Saturday afternoon.

Twelve Fremantle-listed players were in action for the round eight clash as Peel overcame South Fremantle by 44 points to retain top stop on the WAFL ladder.

Coming off the back of four straight wins, it didn’t take long for Peel to continue where they left off as Pat Voss (five goals, 16 disposals) marked his return to the WAFL with two goals in the first five minutes.

The visitors settled and showcased slick ball movement, however, Peel’s defensive unit led by Hugh Davies (13 disposals, four marks) and Ethan Hughes (13 disposals, eight marks) repelled the Bulldogs’ attack.

A back-and-forth first term saw neither side take ascendency, and go into the first change with two goals each.

Much like the first quarter, Pat Voss opened the scoring in the second with a blast from beyond 50 metres.

He was soon joined by Fremantle teammate Sam Sturt (one goal, seven marks) who nailed a remarkable goal from deep in the pocket.

Wet conditions meant players began to fumble but allowed Peel’s physical midfield to further assert their authority on the game.

Fremantle-listed trio Liam Reidy (34 hitouts, 13 disposals), Neil Erasmus (33 disposals, seven marks, six inside 50's) and Will Brodie (24 disposals, nine tackles, one goal) all rallied to continue their excellent form.

After a stalemate period under heavy clouds, South Fremantle were punished for ill-discipline late in the quarter as Peel put on two quick goals and went into halftime with a handy 19-point lead.

Another Bulldogs’ brain fade caused a double 50-metre penalty and put Will Brodie in range to kick the first of the second half.

The game began to heat up with a war of words and minor scuffles breaking out between opponents, but the scoreboard slowed down as Peel failed to turn their territory dominance into goals.

Jack Delean (two goals, eight disposals) added a touch of class as he nailed a set shot to push the Thunder’s advantage beyond five goals into the final break.

Peel approached the last quarter intending to take the sting out of the game, controlling possession early.

They continued to waste opportunities in front of goal until clever small-forward craft from Cooper Simpson (one goal, seven tackles) put the result beyond doubt.

Voss returned to kick two impressive consecutive goals to take his tally for the day to five, proving the value of his recent AFL opportunities.

South Fremantle kicked a couple of late consolation goals before Delean’s second of the day on the stroke of full time topped off a complete performance by the Thunder.

The final score of 12.14 (86) to 6.6 (42) marks Peel’s fifth consecutive win and consolidates their position atop the WAFL ladder after eight rounds.

Speaking post-match, Jack Delean praised the work of the midfield.

01:37

“Liam (Reidy) really dominated the ruck. He’s putting it down their throats (midfield group from hit-out),” Delean said post-match.

“Then Erasmus and Will (Brodie) get to work as good, strong, big-bodied mids and they’re getting the footy to us forwards… we’re pretty lucky to be playing with them each week.”

Delean also expressed his happiness during his first year in Perth.

“I’ve loved it over here, it’s very nice, I’ve got a great host family and great support around the Club.”

He said he’ll continue to bring his trademark energy and flair to every game.

“The higher energy I feel like the better I play, and that can create offence and defence.

"I really come in and want to have a lot of energy.”

Peel will be searching for a sixth straight victory when they take on Claremont at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday 1 June.
