Justin Longmuir says he has 'always felt the support' as he signs a new extension to his contract to see him remain as the Fremantle senior coach until the end of 2025.

Longmuir says despite the external noise he always felt incredibly supported from within the four walls of the Club.

“I’m extremely grateful to the Club. I said to the staff 'I love this Club, I love my job' and I’m really grateful for an extra year on the contract,” Longmuir told the media on Thursday afternoon.

“I’ve always felt the support internally, and it probably stops a bit of the noise externally, but I’m not really worried about that."

“It doesn’t really relieve any pressure, as a senior coach you go into every game with a level of expectation and pressure and this doesn’t really change that, it just gives a little bit of security."

The extension of the contract will see Longmuir move into second all-time for games coached at Fremantle, only behind predecessor Ross Lyon.

Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick said Longmuir's technical insight and passion for teaching football was something that did not go unnoticed within the Club.

“We’ve got great belief in what we’re building here at the Club and Justin’s drive, vision and determination very much aligns with where the Club sees itself going both in the next couple of years and beyond,” Garlick told the media.

“We made some changes to our football program at the end of the 2023 season, and like every decision we make, they are made with a mind to giving ourselves the best opportunity for our Club to achieve sustained and ongoing success.

When asked about the timing of the release, Garlick says there wasn’t any strategic planning behind the decision, rather it was when the deal had been finalised.

“We’ve got an amazing amount of faith in JL, and we think this period is a good timeframe for us to continue to work on what we’ve been doing," Garlick said.

"He amongst a bunch of other people have worked incredibly hard over the last four years or so to build that group, so we’re pretty excited about what they might be able to achieve over the next two seasons.”
