Ruckman Sean Darcy has signed a six-year contract extension that will see him remain a Fremantle Docker for life, signing until 2030.

The 25-year-old, who has played 98 games since his 2017 AFL debut, is a Doig Medallist and widely rated as one of the best young rucks in the game.

Darcy says his priority was to sign on with the Club before the new year so he could concentrate on his football and help bring sustained success to the Club that drafted him in 2016.

“It’s a really exciting time for the footy Club, we’ve got some really talented players,” said Darcy.

“We just need to get stuck into it and I can’t wait for the season to start. I’ve got full belief in our team, our list and what we’re building and everything going forward.

“We had a bit of a disappointing year last season and we’re not shying away from it.

"Everyone is on board that we need to be better, we need to improve and we need to improve quickly.

“We’re trying to get the best out of each other and we’re working hard every day to push each other, so it’s really exciting.”

A product of the Geelong Falcons in regional Victoria, Darcy is committed to playing a key role in the Club’s future and is driven to achieve on-field success.

Fremantle Head of Player Personnel David Walls praised Darcy and his manager Scott Lucas for committing to the Club now when Darcy would have become a free agent at the end of 2024.

“Sean will turn 32 during 2030, so he’s a Freo Docker for life,” said Walls.

“He is committed to helping lead this Club and we saw that with his trip to the US with coach Justin Longmuir and some members of the leadership group post-season.

“Sean was pick 37 in the 2016 Draft and that Draft class included Brennan Cox and Luke Ryan who are all key pillars and integral parts of our team.

“Sean’s parents Greg and Ann-Maree – and the entire Darcy family - are also a huge part of the Freo family. They love the Club and are as invested in Fremantle’s success as Sean is.”

Darcy now joins defender Cox as the longest-committed players, with Luke Jackson and Jye Amiss signed until 2029 and Caleb Serong and Ryan until 2027.

“It's pretty exciting that me and Coxy got drafted together as 18-year-olds,” said Darcy.

“To have him and me sign for that long just shows how much the Club has done for us both personally and how much we want to invest back into the football Club.”

Fremantle now have 15 players contracted for season 2026 and beyond, the most of any AFL Club.

Darcy is currently stepping up pre-season training, hoping to return to full training in mid-late January after ankle surgery restricted his 2023 season to 15 games.

Before the injury, he was rated elite in hit outs across the season, averaging 39.1 a game.

“It’s going really well at the moment, I’ve had a good last couple of weeks. I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel,” Darcy said.

“I’ve got a really important next four weeks that’s going to set me up for hopefully full training in January.”
