Young defender Brandon Walker has signed a three-year contract extension with Fremantle that will see him remain at the Club until at least the end of the 2027 season.
Selected with pick 50 in the 2020 AFL National Draft, Walker has played 45 AFL matches, with his 2023 season cut short in round 18 due to a ruptured patella tendon.
Known for his impressive pace, the 21-year-old has developed into a valuable member of the defensive unit and is often asked to do a lock-down job on the opposition’s most dangerous small forward.
Walker says he is “stoked” with his new deal and feels his knee is tracking well after surgery.
“Put the pen to paper and signed until the end of 2027 – I’m stoked with it,” Walker said.
“It’s been good, it’s been a big year so (this brings) a bit of ease to my mind.
“My knee is going really well. Everything is going as planned, (even) a little bit ahead (of schedule), so I just want to keep it that way.”
Walker’s contract extension builds on a growing core list for Fremantle with fellow young guns Luke Jackson, Matthew Johnson, Caleb Serong, Hayden Young and Jye Amiss signed to 2026 and beyond.
“Heaps of our young boys are keen to get after it. We are ready to go and keen for next year,” Walker said.
“It’s been good to see and I’m happy to be a part of it.”
Fremantle Head of Player Personnel David Walls touched on Walker’s long ties with the Club and expressed how important he has become in the backline.
“It’s a great result for the Club,” Walls said.
“Having Brandon come through as an NGA (Next Generation Academy) product, working with Tendai Mzungu since the age of 14/15 demonstrates his long association with the Club.”
“He’s become super important for us as that lockdown small defender. He’s quick and can take the real dangerous Charlie Cameron types.”
“He is going well with his rehab and we’re hoping he should be alright for round 1.”
