The biggest sporting event on the WA calendar will continue to be known as the RAC Derby for a further two seasons, as RAC, Fremantle Dockers, and West Coast Eagles will extend their partnership to promote road safety awareness until the end of 2025.

RAC WA became an official partner of the Club and naming rights partner to the RAC Derby in 2019, to later also become the inaugural sponsor of WA’s first Women’s Derby in 2020.

RAC Group CEO Rob Slocombe said the sponsorship will continue to be a platform to start conversations with football fans and their families about the impacts of risky driving.

“RAC is thrilled to continue our partnership with the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles,” Slocombe said.

“Our sponsorship of the RAC Derby provides an important platform to spread road safety awareness to the community.

“We look forward to working with the Clubs to continue creating a safer WA in the seasons ahead.”

Fremantle Dockers CEO Simon Garlick said the Club was proud to extend the sponsorship with RAC, continuing to provide a platform to promote a safer Western Australia.

“We’re proud to extend our partnership with a strong WA brand, like RAC, that enables us to fulfill our purpose as a Club of enriching the community,” Garlick said.

“Many Fremantle Dockers members are also RAC members and road safety is an important message for all West Australians.

“We are proud that the Fremantle Dockers can help RAC spread the word.

“Reaching on average nearly 100k football fans each year at the men’s and women’s RAC Derbies, Fremantle are thrilled to work collaboratively with RAC and the West Coast Eagles to raise awareness on road safety in WA.”

The last five years of the partnership has seen road safety campaigns including RAC’s most recent ‘Change your speed, change your outcome’ campaign, shed light to football fans on road trauma.

These impactful campaigns promoting road-safety awareness also provided an opportunity for Fremantle players Nat Fyfe and Emma O’Driscoll, and West Coast’s Luke Shuey and Emma Swanson to share their stories, encouraging the importance of road safety to Western Australians.

The sponsorship with the Clubs will allow RAC to provide further opportunities to engage members around this important road safety message, as well as providing ‘money-can’t-buy’ experiences including the opportunity to toss the coin at the start of each derby.
