AFLW senior coach Trent Cooper has praised the away support Fremantle has received so far this season, and he is hopeful there will be plenty of purple at Ikon Park for their preliminary final against Carlton this Saturday.
Fremantle have won both of their away trips to Victoria so far this pre-season, with Cooper crediting the support the team has received in those games.
“It’s been amazing the support at the games, both here and over there,” Cooper said.
“I had prepped the girls to expect no noise for us at all for away games but at Casey Fields, the support was huge and then in Geelong, I was surprised how many Freo fans were there.
“Everyone who follows the AFL and AFLW sides, we hope they can get down to Ikon Park on Saturday and make a bit of noise.
“We’ve also had quite a good travelling contingent so far this year and it will be great at the weekend to see a few flying over and I’m sure they can get back in time to watch the boys on Sunday.”
Cooper said Freo has built the belief to win on the road.
“It was really important, that first away win (in round one), to get the monkey off our back,” Cooper said.
“Last time, Geelong, you probably couldn’t get a harder road trip with the four hour flight and two hours on the bus to get down there in traffic.
“We’re really looking forward to getting away, the girls love doing that and it’s a good fun time together to prepare and play. We’re more than confortable with needing to travel.”
