Mayne makes special presentation
Andrew Baker got the surprise of his life this week when young gun Chris Mayne dropped in unexpectedly to help restore Josh’s faith in ‘Gen Y’.
Not only was it a surprise that it was Chris Mayne on his doorstep, but Chris also had another surprise install for Andrew and his family.
After spotting an entry into the letters to the editors section of The West Australian from Andrew's wife Genevie, complaining about her son’s 24th birthday party resulting in Andrew’s treasured Fremantle jumper being stolen, the player group rallied to have the prized possession replaced.
The letter criticised the ‘Gen Y’ factor in the theft of the jumper and the family’s lack of understanding of the "what is mine is mine, what is yours is mine" culture that Genevie suggested underpinned that event.
Andrew and his family were overwhelmed by the presentation Chris Mayne made on behalf of the football club.
“I wish to thank the Fremantle Football Club for the unexpected and generous replacement of my stolen framed Fremantle jumper,” said Andrew.
“It was a complete surprise and restores my faith in humanity when people such as Chris Mayne and organisations such as the Fremantle Football Club can find their way clear for such generous acts.
“The surprise presentation completely belies the jaundiced stereotype I held of the ‘Gen Y’ up until then.
“This act has fired up my loyalty and passion for promoting the club as well as (the obvious) continued support.
“I have told everyone that will listen about this, and will continue to do so.
“I still cannot believe it, the generosity and my luck,” he said.
Thanks must also go to Remember Now (0433 194 790) who kindly donated the framing of the signed jumper for the presentation to the Baker family.
