Nat Fyfe likes a wide genre of music, only reads books recommended to him, struggles to sit through an entire movie but enjoys watching television series, surfing and darts.
That just about sums up the pop culture interests of the brilliant Fremantle midfielder.
He won’t be pigeonholed into saying he likes any particular type of music genre.
“I like lots of different music, from old-school rock, Creedence (Clearwater Revival) and AC/DC, all the way through to some new-age indie-electro music,” Fyfe said.
“I like to listen to all different music from different genres, depending on how I’m feeling, whether I’m trying to get pumped up for a game or just trying to get away and relax.”
The dual club champion pumps himself up before a game of AFL by listening to slow music.
“Something like London Grammar,” he said.
“I really find it gets me thinking about things and pumps me up really slowly.
“Golden Features is a band I really enjoy listening to, as well.”
Fyfe is not a fan of long films.
“I struggle to sit through a whole movie,” he said.
“I usually get about an hour-an-a-half in and I get bored. I’m not much of a movie person.”
If I had to pick a favourite actor he would go Matt Damon or Morgan Freeman.
He jokingly thinks the actor who could play him in a film would be someone “handsome and intelligent”.
“Like a Hugh Jackman, although I think Ashton Kutcher might do a good job,” Fyfe said.
The 23-year-old does not read a lot, but if someone recommends a good book he will endeavour to pick it up.
Biographies and autobiographies are his favourite.
“I’ve just finished Twiggy (Andrew) Forrest’s biography,” Fyfe said.
While two-hour movies are not his thing, Fyfe enjoys the smaller commitment of 40-minute television episodes.
“When I travel to play in the east I watch TV shows,” he said.
“I went through the Breaking Bad phase, and I liked shows like Community, How I Met Your Mother and Friends.
“I started watching this show called Lillehammer, which was inspired when I went to Norway.
“It’s Norwegian based. A lot of it is in Norwegian, with subtitles. I recommend that show."
Fyfe is often seen wearing a New Era NBA hat, but it’s more of a fashion statement. He doesn’t watch basketball.
“I like watching the surfing, tennis and golf,” he said.
“And I love watching the darts. That’s probably my favourite one to watch.”
Surfing is his favourite hobby, and he draws inspiration from those who do it for a living.
“I like John John Florence and Jordy Smith,” Fyfe said.
“I like their carefree style.
“John John is pretty progressive with his surfing. But both of them don’t really take it all that seriously. They surf because they love it.”
