Peel Thunder returned to action with a 98-point victory over West Coast at Rushton Park in Mandurah on Saturday, with 12 Fremantle-listed players in action.
The Thunder put in a dominant performance following last weekend's bye with forward Matt Taberner and midfielder Will Brodie playing key roles in the win.
It marked Taberner's WAFL League return following a lengthy stint on the sidelines with a back injury.
Brodie (31 disposals, five tackles, one goal) and Karl Worner (26 disposals) were influential, while young forward talent Tom Emmett laid a game-high 10 tackles.
Ruckman Liam Reidy gave first look to his midfielders with 26 hit outs, while also cashing in with two goals of his own.
Fremantle mid-season recruit Ethan Stanley has impressed since joining the Club and looked right at home with 17 disposals on the wing.
Nathan Wilson and Travis Colyer also put their hand up for a senior recall, both having over 20 disposals and kicking a goal.
Peel enjoyed a strong start to take a 36-point lead into the first break. Taberner’s back-to-back goals being the highlight in his return. While Nathan O’Driscoll guided a signature goal through from the pocket.
Despite the Eagles kicking the first goal of the second term, Peel's dominance continued with six unanswered goals.
Scoring dried up for both teams in the third quarter, with Peel holding the Eagles scoreless.
Wilson and Reidy opened their accounts for the day with Taberner kicking his third of the afternoon.
Consistent pressure from Peel created turnovers and denied the Eagles a chance to link up play. Brady Grey and Brodie were standouts both with seven inside 50s.
A back-and-forth final term saw Peel finish the day with a strong four quarter effort gaining momentum into next week’s blockbuster against Claremont.
Stanley reflected on the win post-game.
“The last couple weeks obviously has not been the result we wanted and it's good to get a big win, and to get the confidence back up as we have very strong competition for the rest of the year," Stanley said.
"We just want to set ourselves up for finals, it was good to get up our percentage and get the four points obviously.
Stanley said it was great to see 'close mate' Reidy excel in the ruck on Saturday.
"It's unreal, i'm pretty close with him and it's just good to see your mate perform well," Stanley said.
"Even in the ruck he was very dominant today and he will be stoked to hit the scoreboard as well."
Stanley also spoke highly of Brodie’s performance and noted his impact as a senior role model.
“He’s always been someone who’s been very good at finding the ball," Stanley said.
"When I first arrived at the Club, I didn’t come straight into the senior side… it’s been good learning to see where he goes to find the ball.”
Peel will host Claremont at Rushton Park next Saturday and look to cement themselves a spot in the finals.
