Fremantle midfielder Megan Kauffman says Fremantle are adapting well together as a team and under new senior coach Lisa Webb as they had their first match simulation of the pre-season at Victor George Kailis Oval.

The hitout was 29 days out from Freo’s round one RAC Derby at Fremantle Oval, and Webb put the playing group to the test with a number of team line-ups, player positions and set situations.

The likes of Kiara Bowers and Hayley Miller showed their quality in the midfield with Kauffman and Dana East also showing they’ll have an impact on the inside this year.

Freo’s rucks Mim Strom and Sarah Wielstra all showed their ability to have an impact around the ground, who along with Tighe impressed with their contested marking.

Freo can also expect their new faces to have an impact this year. Emmelie Fielder looked at ease in the ruck against her more experienced opponents, Jae Flynn kicked a goal up front, Tahleah Mulder was strong in the midfield and Joanne Cregg showed her class and running capability on the wing.

And just 48 hours after being added to the list as a top-up player, Ariana Heatherington showed she belonged at AFLW level as she impacted in a number of roles.

Kauffman highlighted the team’s connection from the high scoring affair, where both she and Aine Tighe starred with multiple goals.

“It's great to have a bit of a run around, it's a little bit more like it will be when we hit the track,” Kauffman said.

“We were really working on implementing our game plan, our ball movement and our connection across the three lines. I think it was great.

“I think our connection has been awesome in this preseason block. We've taken everything that ‘Webby’ has brought on head on.

“It's obviously a challenge to learn a new game plan, but all the girls are doing amazing in learning that, learning their roles and then implementing it just like they did today.”

While Tighe’s goals were the highlight on the stat sheet, Kauffman said the Irish star could do everything.

“She's unreal,” Kauffman said.

“Her hands, she's amazing in the contest, on the ground, with her tackle and pressure.

“it's all of it, she did great today.”

A mature-age draftee from amateur football ahead of Season 7, Kauffman is heading into only her second season and is hopeful of continuing her rapid rise in the game.

“It was nice to play a little bit in the forward line, and to get a couple of goals is always fun. I ran through the middle as well and I felt good,” Kauffman said.

“This year is a step forward in my development and being able to take it to the next level and improve my craft, both in the middle and the forward line to see where I can implement my strengths and my weapons a bit more.

“I'm really enjoying it. I'm learning from the senior girls and getting all of that knowledge as much as possible. That’s been a big thing for me this pre-season.”
