The fourth season of Nat Fyfe’s career could further enhance the young midfielder’s growing reputation.

The 21-year-old burst onto the scene as a forward in 2010, exciting fans with his high-leaping marks and brilliant goals.

It was in 2011 that Fyfe ascended to the realm of star, running second to skipper Matthew Pavlich for the Doig Medal.

But a shoulder injury saw the midfielder play just nine games in 2012, which were still good enough for 14 Brownlow Medal votes.

Fyfe has bulked up significantly during his time at the club and is now a ball-winning inside midfielder.

He is the best contested ball winner at Freo, although if there is an area of his game he could improve it would be his kicking efficiency, which is well-below the levels of the AFL’s elite midfielders.

Fyfe played his first game of the 2013 pre-season in the trial game against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.

After sitting out the first quarter, Fyfe entered the game in the second term and exploded for 10 disposals (six contested), four clearances and a goal.
He ended up with 19 disposals (11 contested) and six clearances.

Fyfe was quiet against Carlton at Etihad Stadium last Saturday with just 10 disposals and five free kicks against.

Don’t expect too many games like that from this emerging superstar.
