Fremantle are hopeful of having Hayden Young and Michael Frederick return for Saturday night’s clash with Sydney, as the pair look to prove their fitness during the week.
In the round 19 Perth Radiological Clinic injury update for round 19, High Performance Manager Phil Merriman said both Young (ankle) and Frederick (quad) had an important week ahead of them at training.
“Both are progressing really well,” Merriman said.
“They’ve got a few more boxes to tick along the way and as long as that happens, they’ll be available for selection.”
Heath Chapman and Matt Taberner are also pushing to play managed minutes as they build their fitness after long stints on the sidelines.
Taberner last played in round four before being sidelined by a back injury, while Chapman hasn’t played since round three before sustaining a calf and then hamstring injury.
“We’re hopeful for them to be available for managed minutes,” Merriman said.
Merriman said Fremantle were waiting for results of scans on both Sean Darcy and Brandon Walker after the pair sustained injuries against Collingwood.
Darcy came off after rolling his ankle in a ruck contest while Walker sustained a serious knee injury and was stretchered off the ground in the third quarter.
“Brandon Walker sustained a patella tendon injury in that contest,” Merriman said.
“We’re just going through the process of seeing specialists at the moment and we’ll have more information to come.
“Sean had a bit of an innocuous ruck contest injury to that ankle. We’re going through the scanning process at this stage and more information on the time frames will come.”
Sebit Kuek is also set for time on the sidelines after hyperextending his knee in Peel’s clash against East Fremantle on Sunday in Geraldton.
“Sebit had a bit of a knee hyperextension injury,” Merriman said.
“We’re just going through the process of gathering the information given it was yesterday in Geraldton.”
In other injury news, Will Brodie is one week away with his ankle injury, Karl Worner two weeks away with his calf injury and Brennan Cox 2-3 weeks away with his ankle injury.
