Senior Coach Justin Longmuir has revealed Luke Jackson has been playing sore in recent weeks, which has limited his ability to contest the ruck.
Jackson had a quieter than usual performance against the Western Bulldogs with eight disposals – his lowest of the season - and Fremantle had to rely on Josh Treacy to relieve Sean Darcy in the ruck in the final quarter of the game.
“Over the last two weeks, Luke’s been carrying an injury which doesn’t allow him to jump at his best and compete at his best in the ruck,” Longmuir told 7News.
“Last week against Essendon, we threw (Treacy) in there for a fair bit as a second ruck and then early in the (Bulldogs) game, JT was second ruck as well.
“We felt like when ‘Jacko’ was second ruck in the third quarter, he struggled to elevate.
“He’s got a little bit of a hip problem so he wasn’t able to ruck in the last quarter, hence we threw JT in there for a few centre bounces while Sean was off (the ground).”
Longmuir said Jackson was on the mend and would play against Carlton on Sunday.
“We feel like it’s getting better, it’s definitely improved from the Essendon game,” Longmuir said.
“It got a little bit sore late in the game against Western Bulldogs but he’s pulled up really well.
“We’ll see what it’s like at main training and work out a plan later in the week.
“He definitely won’t miss any footy.”
