Michael Walters says life with three daughters can be pretty ‘full on’ but the Fremantle forward wouldn’t have it any other way.
It’s hard to find a player in the AFL who expresses his love for those close to him more than Walters. It’s something he literally wears on his sleeve, with the names of his wife Marnie and three daughters Mackenzie, Laila and Addison featured in his tattoos.
Walters’ offseason has also focused on family, with trips to Bali and Queensland.
“It’s pretty full on being in a house full of girls, especially when they’re growing up as fast as what they are, but I love it,” Walters said.
“I enjoy coming home from training and spending time with them, I wouldn’t change it for the world.
“Everyone always asks if I’m going to have one more but no, I’m happy with having three girls.”
Walters added that without his wife Marnie or mother Martha’s support, he wouldn’t be anywhere near the person he is today.
“Marnie’s played a massive role in my life especially when early on in my career I wasn’t taking my footy as serious as I would have liked,” Walters said.
“She definitely kept me on the right path and keeps me working hard and knowing that I have her support makes footy a lot easier.
“My relationship and my bond with my Mum is massive, she’s someone that’s always been there through the good times and the bad times and always taking me to footy.
“She’s always around and there’s no doubt that she’s always going to be there for me.”
Walters is set to return to the club for pre-season training in late November along with his fellow five-year plus players.
It will be Walters’ first time alongside Fremantle’s acquisitions in the NAB AFL Trade Period, which includes forwards Jesse Hogan and Rory Lobb.
“2019 is going to be a different year I think,” Walters said.
“I think we're going to be much improved, it’s been a long year this year but I think we have the young players and also a few old heads around to keep us moving forward.”
