Toby Greene looms as one of Fremantle's biggest challenges in Saturday's clash with GWS at Giants Stadium, and Senior Coach Justin Longmuir has outlined his plan to limit the star forward.

Greene has kicked 32 goals from 11 games in 2023, while averaging 18 disposals and eight contested possessions per game.

Speaking on ABC Sports Talk, Longmuir was asked if Brandon Walker would be his preferred player for the match-up.

Longmuir said Luke Ryan would initially get the job. Ryan has impressed this season one-on-one, limiting Jeremy Cameron to zero goals in round 10 against Geelong.

"It will probably be Luke Ryan to start with," Longmuir told ABC Grandstand.

"The thing about Toby, he's so good at using his body to manipulate space and obviously take contested marks.

"We need to make sure we get that match-up right. We have a couple of go-tos, and there's going to be times where Luke will need to play a bit taller as well.

"They have picked a really tall side, both down back and up forward.

"We're going to have to mix and match a little bit given Luke's going to have to do a job on (Jake) Riccardi at times. They've got (Jesse) Hogan and (Lachie) Keeffe as well.

"There's going to be a little bit of mix and match, but Luke would be our preferred match-up (on Greene) to start with."
