Mikayla Morrison has been ruled out for the 2023 NAB AFL Women’s season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee during training.
Head of AFLW Bob Murphy said it was ‘devastating news’ for both Morrison and Fremantle, with the forward only recently recovering from an ACL tear in her left knee that she sustained in March 2022.
“It’s devastating news for Mikayla, the group and the Club more broadly, particularly after the fact that she had recovered from an ACL on the other knee and put in her 12 month rehab,” Murphy said.
“Mikayla’s been through quite a bit and she has our thoughts and love at the moment.
“We’ll support her as she recovers and get her back out on the field and in the purple.”
Morrison was drafted at pick no.30 in the 2020 NAB AFLW Draft and made her debut in round four of Season 6 on 1 February 2022 against the Western Bulldogs.
She showed her potential in her third AFLW appearance, kicking three goals against Carlton and earning a NAB AFLW Rising Star nomination.
