Neil Erasmus is continuing to put his hand up for selection as Senior Coach Justin Longmuir considers his options for Saturday’s clash with GWS at Giants Stadium.
The 19-year-old Erasmus was again one of Peel’s best at the weekend, leading all Thunder players with 27 disposals while racking up six tackles - however that won’t guarantee him a fourth AFL appearance this weekend.
While James Aish is a forced out due to concussion, Longmuir confirmed O’Meara would make his return from suspension, while Michael Walters would also play a full game after kicking two goals as a sub against Richmond.
“Obviously Sonny will come back in and play a full game and we get Jaeger back from suspension this week, he’ll come straight back in,” Longmuir told 7NEWS.
“We’ll have to sit down at selection and see whether Neil forces his way into the team, but he has been in good form and been executing some of the things we want to see from him.”
Longmuir said Fremantle had some inconsistent performances from their younger players against Richmond, but backed the selection of Liam Henry after his impressive WAFL form.
In Henry’s past four WAFL appearances, the 21-year-old has averaged 24 disposals and six tackles per game while kicking four goals.
“I thought (Henry) really deserved his opportunity at AFL level,” Longmuir said.
“His form at Peel has been really strong. He did a lot right in his role, a few things he needs to tidy up.
“A bit like most of our young players, we were just inconsistent with role at times. He wasn’t alone in that situation.”
Longmuir was unsure if Aish would return in time to face Essendon at Optus Stadium in round 15, however he was more optimistic with ruckman Sean Darcy’s prospects as he builds from sustaining a hamstring injury in round 11 against Narrm.
“(Aish) is improving. Fingers crossed it only costs him a week, but we’ll obviously take all the necessary precautions with him and bring him back when he’s ready to go,” Longmuir said.
“If (Darcy) gets all his rehab right, he’ll come back next week.
“He’s still got a few hurdles to jump over yet and a few boxes to tick but things are tracking pretty well for him next week.”
Longmuir also confirmed Nathan O’Driscoll had been cleared of any injury after appearing to hurt his hand against Richmond.
“He’s fine, he just had it trodden on and he’s pulled up well,” Longmuir said.
