The former Secret Life of Us star is 7,000km into his year long 15,000km trip around Australia in an attempt to raise $1 million for breast cancer research.
Inspired by his sister Connie, who has been diagnosed with terminal breast cancer, Samuel’s ‘Love Your Sister’ journey aims to remind all Australian women to be breast aware in an effort to promote early detection of breast cancer and improve survival rates.
“If me getting on a unicycle and slogging it out across the bumpy roads of Australia reminds women to feel their breasts for any lumps and bumps, then it will absolutely be worth it,” said Samuel.
“And in any case, sitting on a unicycle seat for a year should definitely prove that I truly love my sister!”
As part of his trip to Perth, Samuel will be attending the next home game against North Melbourne this Sunday at Patersons Stadium at 1.20pm.
He’ll jump on his unicycle and complete a lap of honour around the oval at half time to recognise his sister.
“My sister is an amazing woman – vibrant, compassionate and a fantastic mother. After the diagnosis, I spoke to her about what she wanted her legacy to be and told her that I wanted to send her off with a bit of a bang,” said Samuel.
“I was thinking she would say something like skydiving, but instead I’ve been given the challenge of a lifetime - unicycling around Australia and raising breast cancer awareness!”
All funds raised will be donated to the Garvan Research Foundation, a world leader in breast cancer research, and the Eden Monaro Cancer Support Group, which provides financial assistance and emotional support to cancer patients and their families.
