Luke Jackson feels he’s at his best when he plays with freedom, and he did exactly that with an all-round outstanding performance in Fremantle’s 17-point win against Sydney at the SCG on Saturday.

Coming off a perfect 10 coaches votes against Hawthorn last week, Jackson was arguably more impactful against the Swans with three goals, 17 disposals, three clearances and seven marks - with three of those contested.

His second major was a spectacular solo effort where he marked, played on and then dodged around two Swans defenders before snapping the goal.

He also gave off a quick handball to Michael Frederick on the goal line for a goal assist.

Jackson has now goaled in seven consecutive games and he feels he’s found his feet as one of Freo’s tall forwards, with Josh Treacy and Jye Amiss also kicking multiple goals.

“The energy is so good in the rooms right now, winning against a really good side like Sydney on their ground. It’s pretty special,” Jackson told 6PR.

“I’m getting used to playing with my new teammates and knowing what works for them and for me as well.

“I think (I’m) playing with more freedom, when I play on instinct, that’s when I’m playing my best footy.

“The coaches are really good at helping me have that as a focus going in and that’s probably the main reason.”

While Freo’s talls starred, they weren’t able to steal the show from Lachie Schultz, who had four goals as a part of his courageous performance.

“'Shooter' (Schultz) is so good,” Jackson said.

“He puts the opposition under a lot of pressure and we love the energy he brings to the group, you can really feel it out there.

“We always stand taller on the field when 'Shooter' is doing his thing.”

Fremantle’s midfield had their best performance of 2023, winning the clearances by 13 on the back of Sean Darcy’s hitout dominance.

Jackson said it would be crucial when taking on Geelong next week, where Fremantle will be known as the Walyalup Football Club for Sir Doug Nicholls Round.

“I thought the midfield did a great job today getting on top in the clearance. When we’re all playing our role as a team, we can compete with the best,” Jackson said.

“We know Geelong, there’s no bigger opposition than them. We just want to get into the week and look forward to it.”
