For the first time in Club history, the Fremantle Football Club will be renamed the Walyalup Football Club across the Sir Doug Nicholls and AFLW Indigenous Rounds.
In 2023, Fremantle will be known as Walyalup from Monday 15 May across both rounds 10 and 11 when they take on Geelong at home and Narrm at the MCG.
It comes after significant work from the Club’s RAP Working and Advisory Groups, and is highlighted by a stunning logo designed by past player, Life Member and NGA Coach Roger Hayden
“I’m really proud of Fremantle’s history, we’ve always had a strong culture of representing Indigenous players and who we are as a Club and I think this continues with what we’re doing now to rebrand as the Walyalup Football Club,” Hayden said.
“It’s about sharing our culture to the wider community, it’s fantastic and I’m really looking forward to seeing this unfold throughout the year and how it goes in the future.”
The Club has released a range of Walyalup merchandise to mark this significant moment in its history.
Walyalup polos featuring the new logo design have been produced by Sekem and will be made available in men’s and women’s sizes. Other items in the range include Walyalup beanies, drink holders and coffee mugs all donning the new logo.
15 per cent of Walyalup merchandise proceeds will be directed toward the Western Australian Stolen Generations Aboriginal Corporation (trading as Yokai – Healing Our Spirit) truth telling and healing initiatives.
