Travis Colyer is a test to return to football this weekend, according to High Performance Manager Phil Merriman.

Colyer hasn’t played football at any level so far in 2023, following a recent knee injury and calf setback.

Merriman provided an update on Colyer ahead of Fremantle’s clash with Sydney in the Perth Radiological Clinic injury update for round nine.

“Trav is over that minor calf complaint,” Merriman said.

“He will obviously be a test before he takes to the field for some managed minutes on the weekend.”

Meanwhile, a timeline has been placed on young defender Heath Chapman’s return as he works to recover from a moderate-to-high grade hamstring injury.

“Chappy will be around the six-to-eight-week mark depending on how he progresses through his reconditioning,” Merriman said.

Nat Fyfe has pulled up well following his feature in Fremantle’s win as the tactical substitute, collecting 10 possessions and kicking a goal.

Lachie Schultz has also bounced back well after the tough pressure forward endured a highly contested game.

“Nat got through the game well, he pulled up well and he will just continue his build,” Merriman said.

“He is tough Shoota, but he has come in bubbly as ever today, plan for him to play.”

Developing ruck Liam Reidy was withheld from Peel Thunder’s win over Swan Districts on Sunday, after sustaining some tightness in his hamstring last week.

Key forward Josh Corbett has also entered the concussion protocols and will miss this weekend of football following a head knock in the Peel clash.

“Liam had some minor hamstring tightness at main training last week,” Merriman said.

“We decided to take the conservative approach and not play him last week, he will be a test for this week.

“Josh will be going through the standard minimum 12-day protocol.”
