Milli Lucas had the ‘best day of her life’ on Saturday afternoon at Optus Stadium when she shared an inner sanctum experience with her family at the footy thanks to the Fremantle Dockers Foundation.
The 12-year-old who recently underwent surgery to remove a brain tumour is a huge Freo Dockers fan.
She was first invited to meet her favourite player Nat Fyfe along with the rest of the team at the club’s 2016 AFL team photo shoot, shortly after she was first diagnosed.
Flash forward to 2019 and her dream day at Optus Stadium started with watching the team warm up in the rooms, chatting with some of the players, a jumper presentation from her favourite Nat Fyfe and a kick-to-kick with Joel Hamling.
It was then time to head into the arena for the big moment… to toss the coin (not before she had a little sing along to the team song as she watched her boys run out and got a special wave from Nat).
The roar from the crowd after Nat Fyfe embraced Milli at the coin toss set the tone for the game, with Ross Lyon saying after the game that she was an ‘inspiration’ to the whole team and dedicated the win to her.
Milli was there as the siren sounded and was one of the first to run onto the ground to celebrate with the team and was cheered off by the Freo faithful with a rockstar reception.
The inspiring youngster then joined Fyfe in the team song and spent time chatting to him about their families country connections.
Milli’s smile didn’t disappear for the entire day, but the special Freo fan wasn’t taking any credit for Freo’s win telling Michael Walters he was the ‘star of the day’.
