Scott Jones is a chance to play the first Western Derby of his career on Sunday at Optus Stadium, where if selected, the first-year ruckman would go up against some former WAFL teammates.
A product of East Perth - West Coast’s affiliate club in the WAFL - Jones has trained with and played alongside a number of Eagles players who are set to run out in Sunday’s clash.
This includes ruck duo Scott Lycett and Nathan Vardy, who will line up against Sean Darcy, and potentailly Jones, on the day.
“It will be an interesting game,” Jones said.
“I had a similar feeling playing for Peel this year and coming up against East Perth."
During his five appearances for Fremantle, Jones has averaged 12 hitouts per game playing as the back-up for Darcy.
Standing at 203cm and weighing 115kg, Jones has spent most of his time forward as a tall marking target.
With key forward Matt Taberner a chance to return from a three-month foot injury, Jones welcomed the potential of some extra aerial support up front.
“I’m always a big fan of playing tall,” Jones said.
“To have Tabs back will be a huge addition. His workrate and his competitiveness, especially up forward, will be huge, so it’s really exciting to have him coming back from injury.”
