Luke Ryan has been backed to play through a minor knee injury when Fremantle take on Gold Coast in Gather Round on Friday.

The defender has been one of Fremantle’s best in 2023, averaging 27 disposals, nine marks and 7.8 rebound 50s per game.

Ryan also had a back injury during the pre-season and came off for treatment on his knee during Freo’s round four loss to Adelaide during the third quarter, but returned to the field to play out the game.

“He’s alright. His back cleared up pretty quick, he’s dealing with that little knee injury that he had on the weekend,:” Longmuir said.

“He’s one of our toughest players and played under a lot of pain in the past. He’ll be right to go.”

Longmuir said Fremantle are yet to have a timeframe on the potential returns of Matt Taberner and Nat Fyfe.

Taberner returned to Perth from Adelaide earlier this week for scans on his back while Fyfe is continuing to spend time on the sidelines with a plantar fascia foot injury.

“We’ve got scans (on Taberner’s back) and we’re just working through the best way to rehab it,” Longmuir said.

“I haven’t got any time frames yet, we’ll work through that in the next few days or early next week.

“(Fyfe is) week by week. We’ll get back next week and see how he’s progressing and work through a plan of getting him back in the team.

“He’s back running on turf, he’s done a lot of work on the Alter-G (treadmill) and he’s back doing some lower level running.

“The more you miss, the more ground you have to make up so we’ll work through that.”
