Michael Frederick was thrilled to wow Fremantle fans with his now-famous backflip during Sunday’s 41-point RAC Derby win, but it’s likely he won’t attempt one again on a football field.

The 56,090 fans in attendance went into raptures after Frederick snapped his second goal and he unleashed a ‘spur of the moment’ flip as part of his celebration.

Frederick may have been inspired to one-up Michael Walters, who he credited for bringing the fans into the game with his four-goal heroics.

“I love playing with Sonny. It was good to see him getting the crowd involved after each goal, they loved it,” Frederick said.

“(The celebration) was a little spur of the moment, I’ll probably never do it again. It’s good to get the crowd involved in the Derby, in a packed house in a home game.

“I’m sure they all would have enjoyed the game as much as we did out there. It’s good that they can celebrate the win along with us, and hopefully there’s many more to come this year.”

Frederick said it was the first time he had attempted a flip in many years.

“(The last time was) when I was very young, I probably haven’t done it for a long time,” Frederick said.

“I’m not too sure about what JL (Senior Coach Justin Longmuir) will have to say about it, so maybe it’s just a one-off thing!”

Frederick was thrilled to see new teammate Luke Jackson get involved with two goals, including a spectacular contested mark in the goalsquare.

“Everyone loves Luke, he’s an unreal character,” Frederick said.

“We loved his first goal and the second one coming across and taking a good mark at the top of the square.

“He’s an awesome lad and we all love getting around him because of the energy he brings. It was good to see him have a good game today.”

The Woodville-West Torrens product is now looking ahead to two games in his home state, starting with a round four clash against Adelaide in round four and a Gather Round clash with Gold Coast.

“I’ll get to see the family and a few friends while we’re over there,” Frederick said.

“I can’t wait to go back and I’m sure the other SA boys in the squad are excited to go back home too, I can’t wait.”
