Fremantle have landed key position player Serena Gibbs in a trade with Carlton in the Club’s first signing of the AFLW Sign and Trade Period.
General forward Tahlia Read has signed for Carlton as a part of the trade.
Gibbs has played six games for Carlton after making the switch from netball.
Read was drafted by Fremantle ahead of Season 7 but was unable to make her debut in an injury interrupted season.
Head of AFLW Operations Bob Murphy welcomed the 22-year-old Gibbs to Fremantle.
“We’re very pleased to have agreed terms on a trade with Carlton that sees Serena Gibbs join the Fremantle family,” Murphy said.
“Serena is athletic and has shown potential at both ends of the ground, while her running ability could see her earn stints on the wing.
“She’s of great character and fits perfectly into the age demographics of our list.”
Murphy also wished Read well as she joins Carlton.
“Tahlia was drafted to the club between seasons 6 and 7 and was very popular with the group in her short time here,” Murphy said.
“Due to injury she wasn’t able to get the opportunities that we hope await her at Carlton.”
The AFLW Sign and Trade Period opened on Friday 10 March and closes Monday 20 March at 3pm.
