Five years to the day from making her playing debut for Fremantle, Lisa Webb returned to the Club as its new AFLW Senior Coach in an historic moment on Friday.

Webb will lead Fremantle for at least the next three years and become just the second former AFLW player, after Port Adelaide's Lauren Arnell, to become a senior coach.

The former Fremantle midfielder made her debut on 10 February 2018, only to be appointed as Senior Coach five years later on the exact same date.

Webb tallied 17 disposals in that debut against Collingwood in front of 41,975 fans at Optus Stadium.

Speaking to media in front of family, players and staff, Webb said the overwhelming feeling was one of pride.

“I’m really proud and it’s a great day for my family,” Webb said.

“My mum and dad are here today, and they have provided me with the ability to do this.”

“There has obviously been challenges along the way being a mother of two, but with the support I have got from my family and the Club I couldn’t be prouder to be back here today.”

Webb said the familiarities of her time at Fremantle helped make it a relatively easy decision to move back across the country after spending Season 7 as a midfield coach for the Western Bulldogs AFLW side.

With the move back west, her husband Marc will remain in Victoria as strategy and opposition coach, while their two sons Ollie and Leo will move back to WA with her.

“I’ve been here before and I know the resourcing and the people here really well,” Webb said.

“The playing group, to work with them again was something that I never that would happen, but I’m really blessed.

“The boys will come over, Marc is obviously firmly committed to his work with the Bulldogs, but we have done this before, and we know we can do it again.

“I’ve got strong support, whether it’s my 30 new babysitters, my mum and dad, or anyone else."

“I think I’m well equipped to go through this again and Marc has been a great support through this, so we are really proud as a family.”

Webb is looking forward to laying down the challenge for her new playing group as the 2023 pre-season approaches in the coming months.

“I think probably one of my strengths is being able to galvanise with these girls, as cheeky as they are - we have a great connection,” Webb said.

“I want to challenge them; I know they want to be challenged and they have got a real thirst for learning.

“It’s something I really want to drive with them.”
