Fremantle have confirmed their plans for a week-long stay in South Australia ahead of the inaugural Gather Round across Round 5 this season.
Executive General Manager of Football Peter Bell said the Club had made a request to play one of the Adelaide sides in the week before or after the Gather Round, to take advantage of the travel trip to SA.
It means Freo will play Adelaide in Round 4 at the Adelaide Oval, before a week-long stay ahead of their Gather Round clash the following Friday against Gold Coast at Norwood Oval.
“When the Gather Round was first proposed...we put forward the idea that it would make sense that in the fixture beforehand or the fixture after that we would play one of the Adelaide teams which is what has eventuated," Bell told ABC Sports Talk.
“We will go across and play Adelaide on Saturday afternoon the Easter weekend before we play Gold Coast on the following Friday.
“We won’t come home in between; we would save a plane trip and we are well experienced with hubs and the like because of Covid.
“We think it’s a good opportunity to get those two games out of the way and hopefully, we get the result.
"We are very supportive (of the Gather Round), hopefully it comes to Perth at some stage as well which would be really exciting for footy fans."
