Fremantle’s playing group were put through their paces in their fifth match simulation of 2023 on Wednesday.

Sean Darcy spearheaded a midfield of Caleb Serong, Matthew Johnson and Will Brodie for Team Purple while Liam Reidy led Team Grey’s midfield of Andy Brayshaw, Jaeger O’Meara and Neil Erasmus.

Liam Reidy
The first-year ruckman was set a task as the main opposer to Freo's lead rucks in Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson across the morning. Reidy competed hard and impacted the scoreboard with an impressive set shot goal from a tight angle.

Caleb Serong
At his usual impactful best, winning a number of clearances and driving the ball inside 50, notably setting up Lachie Schultz’s second goal of the day.

Hugh Davies
It was our first look at what Davies can do, participating in his first match sim of the year. Was responsible for a handful of kick-ins for Team Purple, while he also looked comfortable in the contest and laid a couple of good tackles to hold up play. 

Michael Walters
Threw his body at everything and was an important extractor out of the contest, releasing plenty of handballs out to his teammates running on the outside. Won his 50/50 contests.

Travis Colyer 
Played the role of the link up player perfectly, sending a number of kicks inside 50 for his side to create scoring opportunities. Capitalised on a Team Grey turnover at the goal line to intercept the ball and dribble through a major from the square.

Jye Amiss
Amiss’ day was highlighted when on the receiving end of a kick to space from Erasmus. Collecting the ball high on the wing and with no player between him and the goals, Amiss seized the opportunity to launch the ball from outside 50 and watch it bounce through the goal. Also won his own ball throughout the day with some strong, clean tackles.

Other mentions - 

Jaeger O’Meara: was in a bit of everything and was clean with his use by foot and hand all day.
Will Brodie: imposed himself and used his physicality well.
Neil Erasmus and Matthew Johnson: both given plenty of responsibility and were involved in the contest all day.
Joel Hamling: used his height to impact the contest with some timely spoils.
Hayden Young: consistently at his best when he’s breaking lines off half-back and executing a clean kick to a teammate in the middle.
Bailey Banfield: found the scoreboard a couple of times and competed strongly in dangerous areas.
Matt Taberner: looks to be close to full fitness, led up well to mark strongly and finished with two goals for the day.
