Fremantle fans have been given an extra reason to celebrate this Christmas with Caleb Serong committing to the Club until at least the end of the 2027 season.

The four-year contract extension is on top of the one year remaining on Serong’s current deal for the 2023 season.

After wrapping up his season alongside his teammates on Wednesday, the young gun midfielder finalised the deal as he commenced his break with family in regional Victoria.

“I’m just stoked to be a part of the Dockers. I absolutely love where the Club’s heading at the moment and I really want to be a part of it,” Serong said.

“I wasn’t looking to go anywhere, my partner Chloe and I, we were always really keen to go again and we’re really lucky to extend for another four years, which is great.”

The no.8 selection in the 2019 NAB AFL Draft, Serong has an impressive list of accolades from his three seasons so far.

He won the 2020 Rising Star award, the 2020 AFLPA Best First Year Player award, the 2021 Goal of the Year, the 2021 AFLCA Best Young Player award, the R22 2021 Glendinning-Allan Medal, Fremantle’s 2022 Player of the Finals and was named in the 2022 22under22.

He’s finished in the top 10 in the Doig Medal in every season at the Club, finishing ninth in 2020, fourth in 2021 and third in 2022.

Voted into the Fremantle’s leadership group as a 20-year-old, the now 21-year-old said his motivation is to help drive the Club to its maiden Premiership.

“We spoke going into the year that we had heard enough about our potential, and we really wanted to perform,” Serong said.

“We made finals for the first time in a few years, so that was really exciting. The next step is to go deeper into finals and we want to win the Club’s first premiership.

“There’s no limit on what we can achieve.”

Serong said the passion of the Fremantle supporter base only added to the atmosphere growing around the Club.

“I think back to the week leading into the elimination final against the Doggies and everywhere we went, there were Freo supporters there wishing us luck,” Serong said.

“The buzz around town and the excitement they had, we felt that and that spurred us on. That’s something we want to build and experience.

“I want to get back to finals and experience those games where Optus Stadium is rocking.

“I can’t wait to see us in some big games in the next couple of years and hopefully, bringing that cup home to the fans. That’s what they deserve.

“They’re extremely passionate and we really appreciate it. It’s a big reason why I signed on.”

Serong is joined by Hayden Young, Heath Chapman, Luke Ryan and Luke Jackson as players who are committed to 2027 or beyond.

The likes of Andrew Brayshaw, Alex Pearce, Jordan Clark, Michael Frederick, Jaeger O’Meara, James Aish, Jye Amiss, Neil Erasmus and Matthew Johnson are also committed for at least three more seasons.

Head of Player Personnel David Walls was thrilled to have a significant part of Fremantle’s list locked in.

“It’s just great to have so many of our young guys committing long term,” Walls said.

“Caleb especially, who has so many special qualities. It’s mostly his competitiveness, his want to get better but then just how clean he is and his vision as well.

“He lives for the big games and was our best player in the finals against the Bulldogs and Collingwood.

“Not only does he want to work hard and better himself, he has the hunger to bring the whole Club along with him.”

Walls said Serong had already exceeded expectations as a player and person from when he was taken as a top 10 pick in 2019.

“We couldn’t possibly ask for more from him. We’re just rapt that he’s committed to the Club and committed for such a long time through to 2027,” Walls said.

“Caleb’s bought in. He and his partner Chloe love WA, they love the Club and they believe in what we’re doing.

“He’s a massive part of our leadership on and off the field, and his family has fully bought into the Club as well, so it’s awesome to have them around for at least another five years.”
