Fremantle captain Hayley Miller says a four quarter effort is the focus against fourth-placed Collingwood at Fremantle Oval on Sunday afternoon.
The past fortnight has been a case of so near, yet so far for Fremantle with brave performances against last year’s grand finalists Melbourne and Adelaide.
At home in round six, Freo closed within four points of the Demons in the final term and last weekend led the Crows by nine points at three-quarter time at Adelaide’s Unley Oval.
“When you go with the top teams for three quarters and have a bit of a fade out in the last, it is disappointing,” Miller told Mix94.5.
“But we’ve been working on turning around that last quarter.”
Consecutive losses leaves Fremantle sitting second last on the AFLW ladder with one win and a draw from seven matches.
“I try not to look at the ladder at the moment because it is a little bit bleak down the bottom,” Miller said.
“It’s been a long time since we spent any time down there, so it’s certainly been tough.”
Injuries are also mounting with Gabby O’Sullivan (shoulder), Janelle Cuthbertson (ankle/knee) and Sarah Wielstra (ankle) all set to miss the Collingwood clash after being injured in the opening half against Adelaide.
“A few things have been outside our control,” Miller said.
“We’ll be looking to finish the season really strong - starting this weekend with Collingwood - but it just hasn’t gone our way unfortunately.”
Sunday’s clash will celebrate the AFLW’s Pride Round and Fremantle will unveil a striking purple version of their 2022 Pride jumper.
