Fremantle’s newest Docker Josh Corbett is looking up to the bar set by former Suns teammate Will Brodie as what can be achieved in his first season at his new Club.
The 26-year-old arrived at Fremantle on day four of the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period at the cost of a future fourth round pick.
Corbett played just four AFL games in 2022 as he battled a hip injury, but like Brodie a year prior, he arrives with impressive VFL form under his belt, kicking 25 goals from 12 games.
“I think Will has laid out a bit of a blueprint and I hope I can have a similar impact,” Corbett said.
“It’s great to see him playing some really consistent football at AFL level. We knew (at Gold Coast) he’s been able to do it, so it’s great that he’s been able to get out there and play.
“I’m going to be a big sponge when I get over there and I cant wait to meet the rest of the boys and get amongst it all.”
Corbett laid out the role he expects to play at Fremantle, saying his abilities can fit in with Justin Longmuir’s game plan.
“I look at my strengths as being my running and marking ability,” Corbett said.
“The way the game plan has evolved at Freo, I feel I can fit in there. Whether that’s the connecter link between the forward and mids or being able to play that goalkicking forward as well.
“As a forward, my role is to kick goals and I’m confident in my ability to do that.”
A dinner date with his fiancée Mikayla with Andrew Brayshaw, Caleb Serong and their partners only solidified his desire to move to WA.
“We had dinner with Andy Brayshaw and Caleb Serong and their partners,” Corbett said.
“We’ve been blown away by the Club and the list is mostly young players.
“They’re mature and are just all round good people. It’s really nice and was easy to make it appealing to travel to the other side of Australia. We’re very excited.”
