Darcy Tucker, Griffin Logue, Lloyd Meek, Josh Corbett.

Executive General Manager of Football Peter Bell says a deal with North Melbourne involving Griffin Logue and Darcy Tucker is imminent, as he gives an update following a busy start to the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.

Fremantle have made one trade to date, with midfielder Blake Acres joining Carlton in exchange for a future third round selection.

Bell confirmed details around the likely trade with North Melbourne, confirmed that Gold Coast forward Josh Corbett had requested a trade to Fremantle, and that Lloyd Meek has attracted interest from Hawthorn.

Freo are set to bolster their 2023 draft hand in the Logue and Tucker trade, which is likely to involve the Kangaroos’ second and third round priority selections for 2023 and some other pick swaps.

Considering Logue was uncontracted and North Melbourne have the no.1 pick in the pre-season draft, Bell said Fremantle were in a difficult position to negotiate.

“We had to be cognisant with the fact that North Melbourne have the first selection in the pre-season draft, so there’s always that looming over the negotiations,” Bell said.

“We’re pleased to report that the negotiations are going really well. At this stage, the trade should involve North Melbourne’s priority picks for next year, where they have a future second and third round pick.”

The potential deal means Fremantle are likely to have a strong hand in 2023, currently holding a future third from Carlton and potentially adding a future second and third from North Melbourne.

“We think the 2023 draft looks to have a bit of depth about it,” Bell said.

“It is very early but we do look forward to those types of opportunities. Where we can, we’d like to be heavily involved in 2023.”

Corbett, a 190cm forward from Gold Coast, toured the Fremantle facility at the weekend and since made a request to become a Freo Docker.

“We had the pleasure of having Josh and his partner Mikayla over for the weekend and showed them around Perth and the Club,” Bell said.

“It’s great to hear he’s indicated his preference would be to come to Fremantle given he did have a couple of potential suitors.

“We see him as a lead-up forward who’s put together some really consistent football in the VFL this year and the AFL previously.

“He’s got a high work rate, and he’s got great character that will add to the group.

“We’ll get to work through David Walls and his team to see what could be facilitated with Gold Coast.”

While there is interest from Hawthorn for a Meek trade, Bell said the Club was eager to keep the ruckman.

“It’s interesting to hear Hawthorn have expressed an interest in Lloyd as a contracted player,” Bell said.

“We think he has improved massively this year, and every year he’s been at the Club. He’s really important for our future plans.

“We’re really eager to retain Lloyd. As I mentioned before, he is contracted and a valued member of our team.”

Fremantle are also working with Melbourne around a potential trade for Luke Jackson, who has requested a move to a WA club.

“I know that David Walls is talking regularly with Tim Lamb at Melbourne, along with Luke’s management,” Bell said.

“There is nothing to report at this stage, but I think those conversations are positive and they’ll continue over the next few days.”
